The 1 HCBS Service You’re Missing Out On.

Quick. Think of 3 home health care services.

We’re willing to bet the first 3 that came to mind was Personal Care Assistance (PCA), Homemaking (HMK), and Home Health Aide (HHA). We’re not saying there’s anything wrong with thinking of those 3. Between those 3 service lines, hundreds of thousands of people across the United States receive the care they need to stay in their homes. In fact, HealthStar is a proud provider of all 3 of those service lines!

What you may not have immediately thought of is Individual Community Living Supports, or ICLS for short. ICLS may be one of the best Home and Community Based service lines available to you. In fact, when we asked what service line our Cloquet office wanted to spotlight this month, they immediately thought of ICLS.

What is ICLS?

We asked our Cloquet office, our champions of Home and Community Based Services, to break down ICLS. Cloquet said they like to describe ICLS as a wonderful mix of PCA and Homemaking services, with some unique service offerings, such as transportation.

ICLS services offers opportunities for clients to be active participants in the community

ICLS is a bundled service that includes 6 service categories. These services offer assistance and support for older adults who need reminders, cues, intermittent/moderate supervision, or physical assistance to remain in their homes.

What are the bundled services?

  • Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as grooming and bathing.
  • Household Management, such as meal preparation and light housekeeping
  • Health, Safety, and Wellness Oversight, such as medication reminders and health monitoring
  • Community Living Engagement, such as transportation to doctors appointments and community activities
  • Adaptive Support, such as developing strategies to promote independence (making lists, using a calendar, etc)
  • Active Cognitive Support, which focuses on issues and challenges that are important to the client

Working as an ICLS Caregiver

ICLS Caregivers have an amazing opportunity to provide hands-on support to those in their community. What might you be doing as an ICLS Caregiver?
